Netflix is being sued for defamation and seeking at least $170 million in damages by the alleged real-life inspiration behind a popular series.

Netflix is being sued for defamation by Fiona Harvey, who claims to be the real-life inspiration behind the main character Martha in the hit series “Baby Reindeer,” and is seeking at least $170 million in damages.

Harvey publicly stated that she is the inspiration for the character Martha in “Baby Reindeer” because of her resemblance to Martha and being a lawyer herself.

According to the lawsuit, Netflix and the creator of “Baby Reindeer,” Richard Gadd, claimed that the series is based on a true story. However, Harvey pointed out that in the series, the main character is convicted and sentenced to five years in prison for stalking, whereas in reality, she has not been convicted or imprisoned. Netflix responded to the lawsuit, stating that they will vigorously defend against the claims and support Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story in “Baby Reindeer.”
